LicenseWatch reveals new Software DNA
LicenseWatch revealed its new Software DNA that will help its customers to identify software applications installed and used in their environment. The LicenseWatch Software DNA is one of the most advanced available on the market and uses three major information sources to identify:add/remove program strings in the registry, file identification and WMI information. These three sources make it possible to distinct software between for instance OEM and Full versions.It also helps to identify the free SQL Server Express edition versus the payable versions. The LicenseWatch Software DNA will also categorize all found software in one of 15 categories. This will enable customers to easily filter out or focus on patches, service releases, freeware, drivers, etc, etc. The LicenseWatch Software DNA recognizes software suites, also called Software Bundles. With Software Bundles it is possible to present for instance Microsoft Office Professional as one application, but with the possibility to see the components it comprises. It includes details such as software version information, language option and platform information. The LicenseWatch Software DNA also introduces Software Families. Software Families help to implement up- and downgrade rights within a certain software application. For instance IE 6.x and IE 7.x both belong to the same Software Family.
The LicenseWatch Software DNA is fully dynamic and is constantly updated with new software titles as they are introduced to the market or when they are discovered by the LicenseWatch SAM tool.
As part of the yearly maintenance, customers can update their local DNA with the central LicenseWatch DNA database online. Offline synchronisation is also available for those customers that have strict security rules and do not allow the LicenseWatch server to connect over the internet.
LicenseWatch Software DNA will be part of the soon to be launched LicenseWatch 7 and will be offered as standard functionality available to all LicenseWatch customers.
